Once again, it’s time to say goodbye to a beautiful, lush and crispy green summer and welcome the glorious colors of autumn. Let us cherish the last glimpses of green 😉
A few years back, I was surprised to learn there is no exact English equivalent to the Finnish word “Ruska”, in which we Finns describe the colors of autumn. The word itself is perfect. In my mind, it’s one of the best Finnish words ever.
If I was asked to describe ruska to a foreigner, here’s what I would say:
Ruska is the the ultimate color of autumn; It starts brown from a distance, and when you go closer, the color has a tint of gold, with the occasional flare of orange and red, perfected with an elegant touch of magenta.
Time after time, I try to explain ruska, but it’s impossible! It’s one of those things you have to see to understand. It’s something quite extraordinary. Such a small thing as the leaves of a tree that make the world a little morw magical. Which just fits for a new semester at Hogwarts 😉
What’s your favorite thing about autumn?
